چکیده
This seminar was held on March 28 and 29, 1990 at the Senri Hankyu Hotel in Osaka, Japan. The organizers of this seminar were Dr. William F. Benedict, Center for Biotechnol ogy, Baylor College of Medicine, The Woodlands, TX; Dr. Curtis C. Harris, Laboratory of Human Carcinogenesis, Na tional Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD; and Dr. Hirota Fujiki, Cancer Prevention Division, National Cancer Center Research Institute, Tokyo, Japan. Based on the friendly support of both the United States and Japanese scientists, this U.S.-Japan seminar had been planned to commemorate the late Professor Takeo Kakunaga and was dedicated to him. Following the original dates of the U.S.-Japan seminar, "The Takeo Kakun aga Memorial Lectures" were held on March 30. Dr. Kumao

متن کاملMolecular genetic control of leaf lifespan in plants - A review
Leaf senescence constitutes the last stage of leaf development in plants and proceeds through a highly regulated program in order to redistribution of micro- and macro-nutrients from the senescing leaves to the developing/growing plant organs. Initiation and progression of leaf senescence is accompanied by massive sequential alterations at various levels of leaf biology including leaf morpholog...
متن کاملAlcohol and Cancer Stem Cells
Heavy alcohol consumption has been associated with increased risk of several cancers, including cancer of the colon, rectum, female breast, oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, liver, and esophagus. It appears that alcohol exposure not only promotes carcinogenesis but also enhances the progression and aggressiveness of existing cancers. The molecular mechanisms underlying alcohol tumor promotion, howe...
متن کاملUrsodeoxycholic acid inhibits the initiation and postinitiation phases of azoxymethane-induced colonic tumor development.
Colonic tumorigenesis involves the processes of initiation and promotion/progression from normal epithelial cells to tumors. Studies in both humans and experimental models of colon cancer indicate that secondary bile acids promote tumor development. In contrast, we have demonstrated previously that another bile acid, ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), inhibits the development of azoxymethane (AOM)-in...
